A flow is where a Talkif agent is designed. You work on a canvas: **agent** nodes hold the instructions, **provider** nodes give the agents hearing, thinking and speech, **function** nodes let them act — and edges say what is connected to what. There is no code, but there is real engineering: prompt quality, model choice and hand-off design decide whether callers get a good experience. These pages are in the order you'll need them. #### [Design a conversation](/build/design-a-conversation) Main Agent and sub-agents, transitions between them, and how to split a job so each prompt stays short. #### [Write prompts](/build/write-prompts) System Prompt vs Agent Prompt, what works on a phone line, dynamic `{{variables}}`, and the Prompts workspace. #### [Choose models and voices](/build/choose-models-and-voices) STT, LLM and TTS providers — how to trade latency, quality and cost, and every setting each one exposes. #### [Call your backend](/build/call-your-backend) Flow functions: let the agent look things up or take action in your systems mid-call, with signed requests. #### [Transfer and end calls](/build/transfer-and-end-calls) Ending well, scripted lines, silence handling, maximum length, and voicemail. #### [Transfer calls to people](/build/transfer-calls-to-people) Hand a live call to a person — warm or cold, to numbers, teammates or teams. #### [Test and publish](/build/test-and-publish) The Flow Tester, what validation checks, and what publishing changes. #### [Templates](/build/templates) Five ready-made flows to start from instead of an empty canvas. > **Note** > > Not sure how flows, versions and phone numbers relate? Read [Flows and versions](/concepts/flows-and-versions) first — it's five minutes and it answers most "why isn't it live?" questions. > Design the conversation, give it a voice and a brain, connect it to your systems, and prove it works before it goes live. ## Docs - [Design a conversation](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/design-a-conversation.md): How agents, transitions and functions combine into a conversation the LLM can run well — and how to split a job across agents so each one stays simple. - [Write prompts](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/write-prompts.md): What goes in the System Prompt versus the Agent Prompt, what works on a phone line, the {{variables}} and helpers available, and the Prompts workspace. - [Choose models and voices](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/choose-models-and-voices.md): How the STT, LLM and TTS choices shape a phone conversation, how to trade latency against quality and cost, and every setting each provider exposes. - [Call your backend](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/call-your-backend.md): Flow functions let the agent read from and write to your systems mid-conversation — how they're defined, how the LLM uses them, how requests are built, signed and limited, and how to handle failure. - [Transfer and end calls](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/transfer-and-end-calls.md): How a call ends well — the End Call function, scripted lines with Say, silence handling, a maximum call length, and voicemail on outbound calls. - [Transfer calls to people](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/transfer-calls-to-people.md): Hand a live call from the AI to a person — when the AI transfers, warm and cold transfers, what the caller hears, the handoff case, destinations and destination groups, teams, and what happens when nobody answers. - [Receive transfers in your app](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/receive-transfers-in-your-app.md): Send live calls to your own server — a signed webhook for each transfer, accept it with an API key, and take the call audio over a websocket. - [Test and publish](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/test-and-publish.md): Talk to a draft in the browser, understand what validation checks and why, publish a version with notes, compare versions, and roll back. - [Templates](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/templates.md): Five ready-made flows — reminder, support triage, survey, lead qualification, payment reminder — what each one contains, and how to make one yours. - [Assistant](https://docs.talkif.ai/build/assistant.md): The in-dashboard AI assistant — chat about your account, build and edit flows, and get help with any part of the platform.
