# Do Not Call

> A phone-number list that blocks every outbound call to it — how it's checked, how numbers get on it (including callers asking during a call), bulk import, and checking numbers before a campaign.

Some numbers must never be dialled: people who asked you to stop, numbers on a regulatory registry, your own staff. The Do Not Call (DNC) list is where Talkif enforces that. It's a list of **phone numbers**, not a flag on contacts — a number stays blocked whether or not it's in your contacts, and however a call is started.

## How it's enforced

Before *every* outbound call — direct, campaign, schedule, API, Meta lead — the destination number is checked. On the list, the call is refused with `contact_on_dnc_list`; in a campaign the contact is marked **skipped** with reason `dnc_list` and the campaign moves on. There's no way to override it per call; remove the number from the list if it was added in error.

Inbound calls aren't affected: if someone on the list calls you, the agent answers.

## How numbers get on the list

Every entry records its **source**:

**`manual`** `source`

Added from the dashboard — a lead marked **Do not call** on the **Leads** page — with an optional reason.

**`api`** `source`

Added with [`POST /dnc`](/api-reference/do-not-call/add-dnc-entry) — from your CRM's unsubscribe flow, say.

---

**`call_opt_out`** `source`

The person asked, during a call, not to be called again.

---

**`bulk_import`** `source`

Loaded in bulk — up to 10,000 numbers per request.

The list is per account. If you operate several accounts in an organization, each keeps its own.

## Working with it

#### Dashboard

The dashboard has no screen for the list itself — add, remove, search and upload numbers through the API (see the API tab and the [Do Not Call endpoints](/api-reference/do-not-call/list-dnc-entries)). A lead can be added from the dashboard: on the **Leads** page, open the lead's action menu and choose **Do not call**.

`check` takes up to 100 numbers and returns which are blocked — use it to scrub a list *before* building a campaign, so your counts are right. [`DELETE /dnc/{phoneNumber}`](/api-reference/do-not-call/remove-dnc-entry) removes one.

> **Keep it in sync with your other systems**
>
> Talkif blocks calls it places. It can't know about a stop request that reached your email inbox or your CRM unless you add the number — wire your unsubscribe path to `POST /dnc`, and import your regulatory registry on its refresh cycle.
