A flow needs a line to live on. Talkif gives you three ways to get one, and they can be mixed freely in one account — a purchased US number for the support line, your existing SIP trunk for the numbers customers already know, and a WhatsApp Business number for the customers who'd rather not dial. | Way | What you get | Outbound | Talkif telephony charge | | ----------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- | | **Buy a number** | A new local number in a supported country, provisioned in seconds | yes | per minute + monthly rental | | **Bring your own SIP trunk** | Your carrier's numbers, routed through Talkif over SIP | yes | per minute (lower rate); your carrier bills the PSTN leg | | **Your own Twilio account** | Numbers you already hold in Twilio, used as-is | yes | per minute; Twilio bills you for the number | | **WhatsApp Business Calling** | Inbound calls to your WhatsApp Business number | no — receive only | none; Meta bills the calling | Whatever the source, a number in Talkif has the same lifecycle: it's **connected** to one published flow for inbound calls, it can be used as the **from** number for outbound calls if it has the voice capability, and it carries its own recording override. #### [Buy a number](/telephony/buy-a-number) Countries, search, pricing, renewal, and what happens when rental can't be paid. #### [Bring your own SIP trunk](/telephony/bring-your-own-sip-trunk) The SIP address to allowlist, the credentials, and the inbound and outbound paths — plus connecting your own Twilio account. #### [WhatsApp Business Calling](/telephony/whatsapp-business-calling) Connect a WABA, register numbers, and why a number stays Pending. #### [Inbound and outbound routing](/telephony/inbound-and-outbound-routing) Connecting flows, pinning versions, from-number rules, statuses and capabilities. #### [Regions and edges](/telephony/regions-and-edges) Where calls are served from, and how the edge is chosen for your carrier. > The phone lines your agents answer and dial from — bought from Talkif, brought from your carrier, or connected from WhatsApp. ## Docs - [Buy a number](https://docs.talkif.ai/telephony/buy-a-number.md): Search and buy a phone number inside Talkif — which countries, what it costs, how monthly rental works, what happens when it can't be paid, and how to release a number. - [Bring your own SIP trunk](https://docs.talkif.ai/telephony/bring-your-own-sip-trunk.md): Keep your existing numbers and carrier — connect a SIP trunk to Talkif. The IP to allowlist, the credentials, the inbound and outbound call paths, protocol and port options, and how to bring numbers from your own Twilio account instead. - [WhatsApp Business Calling](https://docs.talkif.ai/telephony/whatsapp-business-calling.md): Let your agents answer calls made to your WhatsApp Business number — connect the WABA, register numbers, understand Pending vs Active, and what it costs. - [Inbound and outbound routing](https://docs.talkif.ai/telephony/inbound-and-outbound-routing.md): How a number decides what answers it, which numbers can place outbound calls and from where, pinning a number to a flow version, per-number recording, and the number statuses and capabilities you'll see. - [Regions and edges](https://docs.talkif.ai/telephony/regions-and-edges.md): Where Talkif runs, how a call is served from the region nearest the caller, how the carrier edge is chosen for a SIP trunk, and what to allowlist for signalling and media.
