WhatsApp Business Calling
Connect your WhatsApp Business Account and let AI agents answer WhatsApp calls.
Connect your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) to Talkif and assign flows to WhatsApp numbers — your AI agents answer incoming WhatsApp calls the same way they answer phone calls.
WhatsApp calling is receive-only: agents answer inbound WhatsApp calls. Outbound WhatsApp calling is not available.
Connecting your WhatsApp Business Account
Two ways to connect. Both produce the same result: your WABA becomes a provider in Talkif, and its numbers can be registered under it.
| Path | How | Token |
|---|---|---|
| OAuth (Embedded Signup) | Click through Meta's signup dialog from the dashboard | Issued by Meta; may have an expiry |
| Manual credentials | Paste your WABA ID, Phone Number ID, and Access Token | Permanent System User token (recommended) |
If your access token has an expiry, Talkif records the expiration date on the provider. When the token lapses, calls will fail — reconnect (or use a permanent System User token) before that happens.
Your access token is encrypted before storage. It is never persisted in plaintext.
Registering numbers
A WABA owns many numbers. After connecting, browse the numbers available on your WABA and register the ones you want Talkif to answer.
You can register multiple numbers in one request. Results are per number — one failing number does not block the others:
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
registered | Number was newly registered |
already_registered | A row for this number already existed — skipped, not an error |
failed | Registration failed for this number (reason included) |
A WhatsApp number can only be registered once across the platform, and a phone number owned by another Talkif account cannot be registered.
Number status
A registered WhatsApp number is Active only when it is registered on Meta's Cloud API, verified, and calling is ENABLED on Meta's side. Otherwise it lands in Pending, with the reason recorded.
Common reason for Pending: Meta requires a messaging limit of 2000+ before calling can be enabled. A brand-new number stays Pending until Meta raises the limit.
Promotion from Pending to Active is driven by Meta's status webhooks: when Meta reports a status change, Talkif re-reads the number's authoritative status from Meta and promotes it once it is verified and calling is enabled. There is no background poller — a Pending number is re-checked when the next Meta status event arrives.
Same number, two channels
A WhatsApp number is identified by its Meta Phone Number ID, not its phone number. That means the same E.164 number can exist in your account twice — once as a regular (PSTN) line and once as a WhatsApp number — each with its own flow assignment and status. A different account owning the number (on either channel) blocks registration.
What it costs
There is no telephony charge for WhatsApp calls — Meta bills you directly for WhatsApp Business Calling, and the number carries no monthly cost in Talkif.
A WhatsApp call's Talkif cost is the AI processing only: STT, LLM, TTS, and infrastructure. See Cost Breakdown.
